A Prayer for Open Hands

God,

You know everything I am carrying.

The responsibilities I chose.

The commitments I value.

The people I love.

The work You have placed before me.

And You also know the things I picked up along the way without realizing how long I would hold them.

Today, give me open hands.

Not careless hands.

Not hands that abandon what matters.

Open hands.

Help me recognize what still belongs to me.

Give me grace to carry it faithfully.

Show me what needs a boundary rather than an ending.

What needs another container rather than more effort.

What needs to be shared rather than silently carried alone.

And show me what has completed its work.

Where I have confused faithfulness with holding on, give me discernment.

Where I have confused capacity with obligation, give me wisdom.

Where I have become uncomfortable with open space, teach me not to fill it simply because it exists.

Let there be room in my life for listening.

Room for rest.

Room for people.

Room for surprise.

Room for the work You have actually given me.

Room for You.

I release the need to know immediately what every open space will become.

I can leave some things unfinished.

I can allow some things to end.

I can receive space without rushing to justify it.

Teach me to hold what is mine with faithfulness—

and everything else with open hands.

Amen.
